Rose Tyler Makeup Test

Today I had a friend help me out with some makeup shopping and when we were done we headed back to my house where she helped me figure out how to recreate Rose's makeup. Below are the photo's of the finished project.

I also put on my blonde wig. I still haven't styled it or anything, but I wore it to get an idea of how the makeup will look with blonde hair instead of my natural brown hair.

The wig I got is Hollywood Honey by Forever Young. I decided on getting color number 24BT102, which other than it not having dark roots, is perfect! I'm going to try to experiment with adding roots on an old wig I have before doing anything on this one.

Rose Tyler Idiot's Lantern Costume Beginnings

So I've been doing research for this costume for a while but just haven't found the time to write a post about it. This year for Halloween I'm doing Rose Tyler's outfit from the Idiot's Lantern episode of Doctor Who.

This costume is supposed to be 1950's, but well, let's not get into that.

Anyways. The dress is made up in 3 parts - the bodice, which is strapless, and covered in sequins.  The skirt is pleated in, I think, one way pleats. They look different in every picture. Third is the petticoat which adds a nice fullness to the skirt and sticks out a bit on the bottom.

With it she wears a blue jacket, which covers most of the bodice. On the left pocket she has a pink flower pin. Her hair is done up in a sort of loose beehive, a pink headband, and she has mating earrings.

Because my hair isn't blonde and I'm not willing to dye in blonde, I bought a wig. This is the only picture I have of it so far. I still need to get some supplies before I can style it. I think getting the wig to look natural is going to be the hardest part of this costume!

Anyways, the wig I got is Hollywood Honey by Forever Young, color 24BT102 via Vogue Wigs. It took me forever to find a place to purchase my wig because I didn't trust most of the sites I was looking at. Vogue Wigs was good because they had a large selection and they were a decent price. Plus it arrive quicker than I thought it would!

I've started work on the mock up, which I will hopefully be posting about soon. And I've already got the jacket, which I will also post soon.

40's Trousers Outfit {Finished Costume}

A long while ago I posted about wanting to make a pair of 30's or 40's trousers. Well, I finally did it! I made the trousers, and a top, to wear at Aviation Day back in May. This was a really quick and easy project and only took my about 3 days including the days I spent on the mock up.

I ended up using Simplicity patterns 3688 for the pants and 1692 for the blouse. The only changes I made to the patterns was the waistband on the pants because I didn't like the way they did it. And I ended up using an invisible zipper. 

At first I was undecided about doing blouse B or C. I ended up doing C because I didn't like the neckline in the B one and I didn't want to spend the time mocking up my own pattern.

Here's the materials I ended up with. I used a dark denim for the trousers and a cotton print for the blouse. I found both at JoAnn's.

And here's some pictures of the finished outfit. I used a snood for the pictures because I didn't want to curl my hair, and that was an easy and acceptable alternative. Besides, I made the thing years ago and only wore it once.

 

I found these shoes at a garage sale for two bucks. I don't know what I would have done if I didn't find them!
