The Graduation Dress Begins {More Inspiration}

A while back I talked about some inspiration for the dress I'm making for my graduation party in July. I thought I had settled on a design and bought some patterns, which I also posted about in my haul post. I've since gone through a few more idea's for my graduation dress and have finally decided on a design.

Over the past couple of months I've realized that I have a little bit of an interest in Ballet. I was never one of those little girls who dreamed of dancing and wearing tutu's all day long, although I probably wouldn't have said no if I was given the opportunity to wear a tutu.

This year I've been seeing a lot of ballet related things on Pinterest that made me realize how beautiful ballet is. Everything from the dancing to the costumes are just beautiful and delicate. And there's so much detail in everything.

For my graduation dress I decided that I wanted to draw from 2 things, Phantom and ballet. My ballet inspiration came from the romantic tutu's with their long flowing skirts and the lines of their bodices. My inspiration from Phantom was the Star Princess dress that Christine wears at the Masquerade. I love the silhouette of the skirt! But also the the shape of the bodice neckline from the Hannibal scene for the slave girls.

My sketch for the dress. I've started working on the mock up for the bodice, which is going really good. I've decided that before I finalize the bodice mock up that I need to make the skirt to see how short it needs to be. Unfortunately, when I went to the fabric store to get the material I wasn't able to find a fabric I liked for the bodice and I need to buy the tulle for the skirt at the same time as the bodice material to make sure they match. I'm going to try again this week and will hopefully find what I need.
Why are the best sketches always on lined paper?
