About

Behind the Seams is my journey of learning the art of Costuming.

Allow me to introduce myself: I'm Tiana Blanchard. Most people would describe me as quiet, creative, and "that girl that sews". Which I would agree with.

But a few things I would add are:
- I'm a people person, and even though I'm quiet, I'm technically an extrovert.
- I love trying new things and exploring new places.
- Story development and writing is something I'm passionate about.
- Lindy Hop is my second love in life (with costuming being first).

I started sewing when I was around 13. I was homeschooled and my mom taught me the basics of how to use a sewing machine after I asked her to, and I took it from there. I'm a self taught seamstress, most of my learning coming through reading lots of books, blogs, and watching lots of video tutorials. In 2018 I was lucky to work for a small bridal shop, which also did alterations, and the owner took me on to teach me some of what she knows.

One day I would love to get a more formal education in sewing, but for now I'm self taught, and it's worked well for me so far.

I had always been interested in film making thanks to growing up with lots of cameras around the house. My siblings and I used to make all kinds of silly videos, which over the years grew into productions, which grew into short film projects with friends. Getting into Costume Design for film was something I realized I wanted after working on a short film shoot in 2016, and that's what my focus has been on since.

Behind the Seams is where sewing and film come together.

I've had this blog pretty much since I started sewing. Over the years it's changed as I've grown. It's always been a place to share my costumes, research, and love for costumes and historical clothing. It's my journey in costuming and to becoming a Costume Designer.

The goal of Behind the Seams is this:
- To share my costuming adventures
- Provide useful and helpful information
- To share my projects, whether they be sewing projects or film projects
- To help make information about making costumes and Costume Design more available
